Millions of theories, thousands of ideas, hundreds of definitions and countless quotations about happiness! Are they all true or something is missing between them? Do people really know what happiness is? Perhaps this one of the most difficult questions you may be asked during your lifetime. You may give different answers at different stages and ages of your life, because you ALWAYS look for happiness. Once you find it, you start thinking that something could be better. So, was that happiness? While I may explain what happiness is for me, it could be something different for you. However, there is an exact answer to this question because nothing remains unexplainable. Actually happiness and inner peace come together. A funny joke tells that happiness is when idiots make you laugh instead of annoying. But are idiots our main problem? All we need from this life is love and peace. They are the secret of happiness. Well, this is perhaps an individual approach towards the question. Probably your happiness is your mom’s laughter or your own health. Whatever it is, we always tend to connect it with our physical, financial or spiritual/psychological condition. That’s why our approaches towards happiness differ.
If you find out what happiness is, will it change something in you, in your lifestyle or in your way of thinking? First, think what it will give you. If you really want to meet with happiness face to face then let me tell you that you should decide whether it’s a phenomenon, person or any other idea. Here is the answer for those who look for a spiritual concept in it. Happiness is the same state of being blessed. And if you are blessed by God then your life goes the way it should. You are pleased with everything you have and you do your best to make everyone happy around you by sharing this secret. Everyone can get happiness if they stop relying on the temporary things. Because when you understand that everything is temporary and nothing lives forever besides God’s blessings, you choose happiness instead of time-to-time changing happy states. It’s once and for a lifetime. You can’t find and lose it eventually. You can’t suspect on its being “happiness”. You must be sure that you are happy and no one can take it away from you because it’s given by God and his unconditional love will always be with you. Money can’t buy you happiness, people can’t give you happiness just because you live (they always expect something instead of anything they give including you) and finally, you can’t create it yourself. If God is not with you, then you are all alone in your temporary “happy” life.
As a Conclusion I offer the following proverbs from Bible.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.[b]
13 Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.
32 “Now then, my children, listen to me;
blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
do not disregard it.
34 Blessed are those who listen to me,
watching daily at my doors,
waiting at my doorway.
35 For those who find me find life
and receive favor from the Lord.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
all who hate me love death.”
